The Daily Journal, an award-winning daily newspaper in south central Indiana, is on the hunt for an experienced reporter to cover one of its biggest, most active beats.
The Daily Journal has twice won the coveted Blue Ribbon Award from the Hoosier State Press Association, and was runner-up just two years ago, making it one of the best newspapers in the state.
The team, from our modern office overlooking the courthouse square in downtown Franklin, covers Johnson County, south Indy suburbs, Edinburgh on the Bartholomew County line, and dips into Morgan and Shelby counties. The team is responsible for coverage of the rapidly growing county that includes two cities and about a half-dozen small towns, six public school districts, several private schools, three colleges and universities, three hospitals and a U.S. military and civilian training post.
This reporter would cover the City of Greenwood, a rapidly growing city of about 60,000 people on the Indianapolis-Marion County line. This person would be expected to own the city beat, covering the Greenwood City Council and Mayor's Office, but also business, economic development, housing, fire, police and schools within the city. This reporter would also be asked to monitor the Statehouse during legislative sessions and localize state issues, and take on breaking news and general assignments as needed.
If you think you have what it takes to cover a busy beat at a busy paper, send your resume, cover letter and clips by Friday, June 18.
